Newark

Welcome to Newark

Surrounded by Fremont on one side and the Bay on the other, Newark has the feel of an island city. Along with Union City, these two communities make up the Tri-City area at the convergence of Highway 84 and I-880. Highway 84 spans the Bay as the Dumbarton Bridge, landing in Menlo Park.

Newark has a long history of independence and community spirit. In 1955, the leaders chose to stand alone, and Newark was thus incorporated as the first new city in Alameda County in 47 years. Newark continues to thrive, benefiting both residents and commerce.

Education is a priority for all age groups, from a broad adult program to quality elementary and secondary public education systems. Ohlone College, California State University, East Bay, and the nearby Cal-Berkeley Extension in Fremont all serve Newark and its surroundings.

The George M. Silliman Community Activity and Family Aquatic Center is a dramatic multi-use complex that includes a gymnasium, teen drop-in center, year-round indoor pool, water slides, full-service café, and event rooms. Completed in 2004, the Center is a wonderful component of Newark’s quality of life.

The mild, protected climate (think less fog, more sun), extensive recreational opportunities, NewPark Mall, protected preserve land, and convenience comprise the charm and attraction of Newark.
