Castro Valley

Welcome to Castro Valley

Castro Valley is a moderately affluent and semi-rural unincorporated town, bordered by Hayward, San Leandro, and Dublin. The school system is highly rated, and transportation is convenient. Neighborhoods are quiet, and the architecture covers a wide spectrum of styles. Primarily a residential community, commercial entities cover approximately five percent of the area.

One of the largest unincorporated areas in the country, the town covers 16 square miles of prime real estate in the East Bay, located about 27 miles southeast of San Francisco.

Although it partially overlaps the city of Oakland, Lake Chabot is primarily located in Castro Valley. The 315-acre lake is well-stocked with fish and is home to an annual fishing derby. Canoe and boat rentals are available, and nature walks abound. Picnic areas, horseshoe pits, and a tour boat, the Chabot Queen, make it a lovely adjunct to Castro Valley.

Rowell Ranch is home to an annual rodeo dating back 90 years. It is operated by a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the rodeo’s history and other traditional community events, such as the annual chili cook-off and rodeo parade.

Castro Valley is one of the Bay Area’s lesser-known jewels, but a jewel nonetheless.
