About San Francisco - Stonestown

One of the last-developed slivers of land in all of San Francisco, Stonestown has matured into a hub for city dwellers, offering a little bit of something for everyone. ...

This mid-century neighborhood is home to San Francisco State University and Stonestown Galleria, a mecca for mainstream shopping; both take up a majority of space in the northern half of the neighborhood. South of these is a residential borough, partially a planned community to offer San Franciscans a taste of suburbia set apart from the epicenter of the city.

Stonestown is known as a college area, bubbling with students on the college campus who overflow into the Stonestown Galleria shopping center as well as into the residential area to its south, filled with properties meant to accommodate college life. The Parkmerced apartment complex just south of the college is renowned as the second largest single-owner community of apartments in all of California.

The stretch of 19th Avenue along its eastern border represents a main transportation strip with a major metro line stop and in the neighborhood’s most southern point is Highway 1. Stonestown is also perfectly located between Lake Shore — boasting Harding Park, the San Francisco Golf Club, and a number of outdoor recreations.
