About San Francisco - Merced Heights

Merced Heights is a strictly residential neighborhood, perched upon a steep hillside in the southwestern section of San Francisco. Its unique characteristics and optimum location within the city make it a sought-after neighborhood to call home....

This compact suburban neighborhood has two outdoor, shared green spaces along its southern border. Merced Heights Playground is just over an acre and has a playground, basketball courts, and plentiful green space for kids to run, pegging it as an ideal spot for picnics. And Brooks Park is an expansive outdoor space, well-known throughout the city for its community garden where members can grow produce and ornamental plants for personal use. The park serves as a neighborhood meeting place, offering a hilltop wilderness, Tai Chi, ping-pong, bocce ball, badminton, volleyball, and — most notably — views beyond compare.

A late-blooming neighborhood by San Francisco standards, most of the homes in Merced Heights were built in the 1940s and 1950s. Each plot of land is uniformly laid out and boasts a variety of post-war architectural styles. Overall, the area is dense in single-family row houses with a handful of older detached homes.

While Merced Heights has no internal commercial hubs, only steps outside of the neighborhood in any direction, residents can find access to everything they need: public transportation and direct routes to the freeway as well as city amenities including destination restaurants, upscale shopping, entertainment options, and close proximity to San Francisco State University.

Charming and distinct, Merced Heights is a classic San Francisco residential sanctuary offering all of life’s essentials, including big-city amenities just a skip away.
