Residential streets in Forest Knolls come with a variety of housing, often in a Mid-Century Modern style. A collection of single-family homes, condominiums, duplexes, and bigger multi-unit properties are filled with a wide variety of residents from families and longtime residents, to students and professionals that work at the nearby medical campus. With an elevation of 909 feet, Mount Sutro sits in the neighborhood’s northern sector and is as one of San Francisco’s original Seven Hills, with the majority of its land owned by the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). Approximately 80 percent of Mount Sutro is naturally covered by a dense forest, primarily made up of eucalyptus trees, its oldest ones standing over 100 feet tall.

At the most northern point of this neighborhood sits the University of California Medical Center, which spills over into the bordering Inner Sunset. UCSF is a world-renowned center of research, patient care, and education and widely regarded as one of the world’s leading universities in health sciences.

Neighboring districts offer Forest Knolls all of the niceties of urban living while its natural surrounding habitat provides a tranquil environment tucked away in the center of the city.
