About Pinole

Pinole is located near the junction of I-80 and State Route 4 between Hercules and El Sobrante. On the shores of San Pablo Bay in western Contra Costa County, Pinole enjoys a fairly mild climate year-round. Oakland is about 17 miles to the southwest, and San Francisco is about 23 miles away. ...

Pinole is a Native American word for a special blend of flour derived from natural local vegetation. The city was originally called “El Pinole” by Spanish settlers. Incorporated in 1903, the land area is just over four square miles, with rolling hills of varying grades. The population is approximately 19,000, and the area is primarily residential.

Many of its original structures downtown are well maintained, and the City has preserved them as part of a historical area. On the modern side, the state-of-the-art Pinole Skate Park opened in the fall of 2015, and is a major attraction for local youth.

Pinole’s Bay Area location is convenient to a wide variety of shopping, dining and entertainment offerings.
