About Albany

Located on the east shore of the Bay, Albany was originally incorporated in 1908 as Ocean View. The name was changed in 1909 to Albany to honor the city’s first mayor, Frank Roberts, who was born in Albany, New York....

Although it’s a small city of approximately 1.7 square miles, Albany has an appealing diversity due primarily to its proximity to the University of California, Berkeley. The community also enjoys a highly-regarded school system and a robust retail environment on Solano Avenue. The Solano Stroll is a festive annual event that draws nearly 100,000 visitors. Nearby Golden Gate Fields, the Bay Area’s only horse racing track, is an iconic local landmark featuring live events right on the Bay.

Blending the best of small-town atmosphere with a prime Bay Area location, Albany has built an inviting environment for youth, families, students and the elderly. Comprised primarily of single-family homes and small businesses, Albany residents enjoy easy access to freeway and public transportation, entertainment, shopping and dining in another lovely city by the Bay.
